A piece in the New York Times covers an OpenAI hack that was disclosed to employees in a company-wide meeting in April of last year. This raised an alarm for national security concerns for some in high positions at the company. That includes technical program manager for OpenAI at the time, Leopold Aschenbrenner, questioning whether OpenAI was doing enough to thwart off attacks from the likes of China and other adversaries. Aschenbrenner was fired from the company and feels this was politically motivated after discussing the severity of this issue.

Some are arguing that AI poses no more of a threat than the same information that is easily accessible through search engines. Others including government professionals like Susan Rice cited in the Times piece, argue that we need to take these threats seriously, and that these claims are not just the work of science fiction. What do you think? Are foreign governments that are hostile to the U.S. going to infiltrate our technology for evil?
