Although not yet confirmed by the band themselves, it appears that heavy metal icons Metallica have had their official account breached on the X platform. The band’s account which boasts an impressive 6+ million followers has been sending Tweets promoting a crypto coin by the name of $METAL. The token is on the Solana blockchain. Needless to say, promoting this out to on an account of this magnitude can lead to some serious monetary manipulation.

The tweets which are still up @Metallica definitely appear suspicious, and we will stay tuned for the band’s statement on this. Early on this year, the U.S. government’s own Securities and Exchange Commission account on X was hacked which we reported on, and was a result of careless disabling of two-factor authentication. Hackers made a false tweet confirming the approval of a Bitcoin Spot ETF prior to it being confirmed, leading to possible manipulation in the price of the cryptocurrency. As always, we urge all users of social media to turn on two-factor auth, and have a secure password that is regularly updated in order to avoid these issues for yourself.
