Back in February, global financial company Prudential encountered a data breach into its system. The following month, the company disclosed in a filing with the state of Maine that 36,000 customers had their private information compromised consisting of names, driver’s license numbers, and other ID card information, and that those customers had been notified.

What we have learned this week is that this number was a far cry from what is now being revealed as the true number of accounts impacted. They have now disclosed that more than an astronomical 2.5 MILLION accounts have been impacted upon further investigation. The ALPHV/Blackat ransomware gang, responsible for many other breaches, has claimed responsibility in this hack.

Prudential is home to the second-largest life insurance company in the U.S. with over $50 billion in revenue last year. A breach of this magnitude is sure to create some major internal issues within the financial giant.
